Casting Call for Spirits of NYC - 1892

MUST FINALIZE CASTING BY OCTOBER 10TH -

Spirits of NYC is a pop-up Halloween outdoor puzzle game to take place in Greenwich Village.

Actors will enhance the experience and story of the game by interacting with players while they walk around the neighborhood solving the puzzles.

All actors involved must:

  • Be comfortable interacting with players/customers in character without the use of an official script

  • Be able to walk up to 10,000 feet (~4 miles) over the course of each play session, as characters must change locations at times

  • Feel comfortable staying in character while walking around Washington Square Park and Greenwich Village and wearing 1870s attire

  • Feel comfortable breaking character if needed for safety reasons (there are no inherent dangers in the game, but we will be outside in NYC)

  • Be available for the dates/times listed below

  • Sign a contract guaranteeing their availability

WE ARE CASTING:

  • 20s - early 40s WOMAN to play ghost in the 1870s - must be good at being very creepy

  • 20s - early 40s MAN to play gentleman of the 1870s

  • 20s - 60s ANY GENDER to play concerned citizen in the 1870s - will also act as first point of contact with players and act as defacto “game manager,” explaining to players how to play the game while staying in character

For this production, we are doing color-blind casting - all ethnicities welcome to audition.

Rehearsal and Performance Schedule:

  • Week of Oct. 6th or 13th - group meeting and walk through of game + costume fitting - date/time TBD, 2-3 hours required

  • Sun. Oct 19 @ 12-5:30 pm - Dress rehearsal playtest with playtesters

  • Fri. Oct. 24 @ 5:30-8:30 pm - "Opening night"

  • *Sat. Oct. 25 @ 2:30-8:30 pm

  • *Sun. Oct. 26 @ 2:30-8:30 pm

  • (MAYBE Thur. Oct. 30 @ 5:30 - 8:30 pm - if ticket sales are strong, we may add this day)

  • *Sat. Nov. 1 @ 2:30-8:30 pm

  • *Sun. Nov. 2 @ 1:30-7:30 pm (daylight savings begins)

*If ticket sales are strong, we may start earlier on these days.

Each actor will receive $600 in compensation for schedule above, paid in cash. Additionally, customers will be encouraged to tip actors at the end of the game, which will be divided evenly among actors.

If Thursday is added and/or hours are added to the weekend, pay will increase by an additional $18 / added hour.

If a date is completely rained out and tickets must be refunded, total pay will decrease by $50.

    • WOMAN - as a scary ghost from the 1800s - in a manner you think would make players feel tingling scared. Experiment with soft but creepy sounds and singing.

    • MAN - as a confident gentleman from the 1800s who is a bit of a cad, approaching another gentleman for a conversation

    • ANY GENDER - as a concerned citizen from the 1800s explaining to an equally concerned audience about how to use a map to go to the location where the ghost was last spotted
